Crime Report for June/July 2003

The recent activity in our neighborhood has consisted of car break-ins, vandalism, and car thefts. No area of the neighborhood seems to be a target over another. We are seeing increasing foot traffic on Waggoner Road walking along the easement and those of us against the main road should remain alert to this.

In addition, several neighbors are having their fences jumped and items taken from their backyards in the late evening. Items such as: children's toys, bikes, yard art, and even shrubs.

Please be aware that crime exists everywhere and that we must keep an eye out for eachother. Feeling safe and being safe are two entirely different ideas.

Lights on means Lights out on Crime!

Every month I am updated by our Columbus Liason Police Officer on the neighborhood crime, if any. And of the thefts and vandalisms we have most, if not all, could may have been prevented or discouraged had the homeowners left their porch lights on. Next time you drive home at night from being out, notice how many of your neighbors DON'T have a single light on in the REAR or the FRONT of their home. This isn't protecting them, nor YOU. Unkept shrubs, trees, and large landscape are all "hide outs" for would-be intruders. Please tend to this or encourage those around you to do so. PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELF, YOUR NEIGHBORS, AND OUR CHILDREN by putting the lights out on crime!

Blockwatch Association

Did you know we have a crime watch prevention association set up in Woods at Jefferson? It was established in August, 1999 and is meant to bring neighbors together by watching out for eachother. Look for the Blockwatch signs at the front of each entrance. This establishment keeps your neighborhood leader in constant contact with the local government and Columbus Police Department which offers inside information at times to the happenings both good and bad in our area. Our Columbus Police Liason officer is Steve Preston, 645-1414 and can be contacted at anytime with specific questions.
