GENERAL MEETING
Monday, August 1, 2005
Minutes

Call to Order at 7:08 P.M.
1. Pledge of Allegiance
2. Introduction of New Members/First Time Attendees
Three new members were introduced.
3. Changes/Modifications to the Agenda
4. 50/50 Tickets ($1 each or six for $5)
5. Refreshment Sign-up, Nancy Risch was in charge.

Board Member Role Call:
Present: Daniels, Graeber, Greenfeld-Wisner, Greenwood, Haas, Risch, Kingsley, McKiernan and Norvell
Absent: Hill, Tolkoff

Approval of Minutes:
?• Due to the absence of Alan Tolkoff, previous Secretary, none were presented to be approved.

7:15 p.m. -- Input to Board and Requests for Support
?• Support for Maximum Sentencing ?–
Members spoke about the sentencing hearing for a Wrigley resident. It was requested that the Wrigley Association and the members present attend the sentencing hearing and demand the maximum. The date for hearing will be Thursday, August 18th at 8:30 A.M. in Room 412.

Treasurer?’s Report:
?• Due to the absence of Jill Hill, Treasurer, none was presented.

Membership Report :
?• Nancy Risch gave the report. There are 166 members, 7 new members were signed up.

Christmas Tree Lane Report (Donations should be made payable to Partners of Parks)
?• Maria Norvell gave the report. Maria reminded members to sign to volunteer.
The School Band list is ready ahead of schedule and the sponsor sign has been done.

Community Planner Comments
?• 1923 Pacific Avenue ?– Conditional Use Permit ("CUP")
No formal application. Services are being performed at this site.
A ?“Special Inspection?” is being requested.

Public Safety Update (Marcia Rhone)
?• Marcia Rhone was not present. She is retiring and an event will be held at the West Division on September 1st. Commander Kilmer gave a report. There are summer problems with gang activity.

7:30 p.m. -- Program and Member Discussion:
?• Siting of a LNG Terminal in the Port of Long Beach with Introductory Comments by Councilmember Colonna.

The Councilman took questions and answers from the membership. He is the chair of the Federal legislation committee for the City.

The Port of Long Beach has the siting authority. There will be an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). There are concerns about the ?“First Responders?”; fire, police, etc. The Federal energy bill to be signed by the President will affect who has the authority over LNG. There were questions about discounts rates for Long Beach residents, which is still unclear.

Councilwoman Uranga also answered some questions.

Memorial Hospital Expansion ?– Remedial Work Plan Public Meeting
Joan Greenwood attended the meeting.

?• New Business

Shopping Carts
There will be a meeting on August 8, 2005 Neighborhood Committee Meeting regarding this issue.

Assemblywoman Betty Karnett, 54th District spoke.
?• She is organizing a town meeting regarding trash clean up, which will be Saturday, September 10th. She has spoke about Long Beach schools and a pilot project on gangs.

Council Comments
7th District: Tonia Reyes Uranga
?• The Councilwoman spoke about street construction is taking place in the Wrigley neighborhood.
?• She has spoke about the Shopping Cart legislation at the City Council to handle the problem of shopping cart through the city.

6th District: Laura Richardson
Tim Lee from the Council staff spoke.
?• The used cars sales stopped on Pacific & PCH.
?• The recycle center on PCH and Pacific, the Redevelopment agency want to buy the site.
Issues about negative impact of the center needed.
?• Gas Station on Willow and Pacific: New owners responding to issues plans ahead.
