Board Member Role Call:
Present: Graeber, Greenwood, Haas, Kingsley, Hill, McKiernan and Tolkoff.
Absent: Daniels, Norvell, and Greenfeld-Wisner.
Approval of Minutes:
?• M/S/C, The minutes were approved with one correction, active in place of activity.
Treasurer?’s Report:
Jill Hill presented the budget report.
?• The balance as of June 2, 2005 was $5,826.27.
?• The unrestricted was $2,774,60.
The Board approved a donation to Red Cross for Katrina Relief of $100.00
Membership Report:
?• Nancy Risch gave the report. There are 167 members.
CPAC
Alan Tolkoff gave the report.
4 candidates were nominated for the RDA Board. Pat West from the City of Paramount is now the Director of Community Development.
$200,000 for Code Enforcement has been approved, however, representatives of Code Enforcement should be reporting to the CPAC meting but have been no shows.
Community Planner Comments
Jorge Ramirez gave the report.
?• 1923 Pacific Avenue ?– Conditional Use Permit ("CUP") required. The application is incomplete. A parking use variance may be needed.
Public Safety Update
Noor Ismail gave the report.
Ms. Ismail replaces Marcia as the Community Policing staff person. She can be reached at the West Division office at 570-3463
Program and Member Discussion:
a. I-710 Landscaping
Port landscaping project is different that CalTrans work. They are planning of putting trees on and near the I-710 in Long Beach. They want to identify sites for the trees. Some members voiced concerns about the homeless using the trees for shelter and native plants should be used. There is a ?“Green Port?” event planned on Oct 1st.
b. City Budget:
Steven Scott gave a presentation on the City budget. He explained the status of the Financial Strategic Plan. In 2002 there was a $102 million budget problem. Currently, the City is working on the 2006 fiscal budget. The City may extend, one year more, the budget reduction plan. He also discussed possible cuts and reduction of services.
Council Comments
6th District: Laura Richardson
Marc Gofstein, a new staff person from the Council staff spoke. He discussed South Wrigley ?“Intensive Code Enforcement?” on Pacific. There are 65 active cases. In addition, the parking on Pacific is being studied. The City is investigating a Business Improvement District for Pacific, which would result in a small assessment and could provide things such as extra security, different lighting.
7th District: Tonia Reyes Uranga
The Councilwoman discussed some important issues regarding the Railroad. Burlington wants to increase traffic at a transfer facility which could affect the Wrigley area. Street repair in the area is taking place as part of Prop C Funding
