NEIGHBORHOOD ADVISORY PRESERVATION COUNCIL AND AGENDA
To: Each of the Representatives of the various Historic Districts of Long Beach
We were extremely pleased with the wonderful turnout and uniformly positive feedback and enthusiasm that you demonstrated following the initial meeting on the historic Queen Mary.
The next meeting of the Neighborhood Advisory Preservation Council will take place at another historic landmark in our wonderful City, the Bembridge Heritage Homesite, located at 953 Park Circle Drive, Long Beach 90813, on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. There is some street parking on Park Circle Drive and additional street parking available behind the Homesite on Loma Vista Drive and various adjacent side streets.
The Agenda for this meeting, part of which was carried over from the initial meeting, will include the following:
Development of a Mission Statement for the Preservation Council. In this regard, we want your input on this! Please provide us with your ideas and proposed language to be included in the Mission Statement prior to our next meeting. We would request that you e-mail your ideas in this regard to David Waller at Advocacy@LBHeritage.org by June 15, if possible, so that your recommendations can be incorporated into a proposed draft Mission Statement for discussion at our upcoming meeting.
Receipt of your input as Historic District representatives as to your perspective on issues and city related matters that need to be addressed by the Preservation Council. This portion of the meeting will involve the attendees breaking into small groups to take part in breakout sessions intended to encourage and facilitate straightforward elaboration and recordation of all issues of major concern to the various Historic Districts.
One of the major areas of concern expressed by many of the Historic District representatives involved inconsistencies in application among the various Historic District Ordinances. We believe that the first step in addressing the issue of the application and enforcement of the various Ordinances is to understand the similarities as well as the differences among the various Ordinances, as well as the Cultural Heritage Commission Ordinance. In furtherance of this concept, we are requesting that each District bring a copy of its Ordinance that can be left with us for incorporation into a binder containing all of the Historic District Ordinances. We are then going to select some representatives from Long Beach Heritage and some volunteers from the Historic Districts to undertake a thorough review of the various Ordinances with a view to preparation of a report analyzing the various Ordinances.
A report on developments with respect to efforts to beef up and strengthen the penalty provisions of the Historic District and Cultural Heritage Commission Ordinances.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Please remember to e-mail your Mission Statement ideas by the 15th and to bring a copy of your Historic District Ordinance with you on the 22nd.
We also request that each of you receiving a copy of this e-mail please RSVP to Advocacy@LBHeritage.org by June 20 so that we have an accurate count of those planning to attend.
Thank you for helping to make this Council a reality and see you on the 22nd.
