City of Long Beach Housing Element Update
The City of Long Beach is updating the Housing Element of the General Plan. The General Plan is the City’s master plan for the physical layout and future development of the City. The Housing Element is a critical component of the General Plan and is updated periodically because housing affordability is such a major issue in California. This update, the 2008-2014 Housing Element, identifies constraints and opportunities in creating affordable housing for everyone in the community, and it serves as a comprehensive strategy of goals, policies and programs to preserve, upgrade and create additional housing opportunities in Long Beach.
The City wants your input in creating an updated Housing Element that is responsive to the needs of the community. A Housing Element “Community Housing Needs Meeting” will be held on Wednesday, February 27th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Jackie Robinson Academy, located at 2750 Pine Avenue (across from Veterans Park). Come and find out more about the Housing Element, tell us what housing programs you would like the City to work on, and take our Housing Needs Survey.
