I am your new neighbor as of August 2009 and I am running for The School Board for the Southfield Public Schools in the November 2, 2010 election.
I have a Bachelors in English from Wayne State University, Master in Education from Central Michigan University, Education Specialist Degree from Wayne State University and TEFL Certification from the International Institute of Applied Linguistics, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
I decided to run for the Southfield School Board as a result of my civic responsibility to assist in the life saving measures our troubling district so desperately need.
I have a child in the Southfield Public School System and have first-hand knowledge of the needs comfronting our students. This year alone, Southfield Public Schools have suffered a major decline in enrollment, replaced teachers in the classroom with computers in the classroom, closed a wing from access at Southfield-Lathrup High, and reduced the number of courses in academics and electives available to our students.
I have also taught Freshmen at the Junior College level and have first-hand knowledge of their low-level reading and writing skills that prevent them from placment into the basic 100-level college courses.
Although I do not consider myself a politician, per se, I do have within me a sense of civic and community responsibility that has galvanized me and motovated me enough to enter the race for Southfield Public Schools as a Board Member.
Help me make a difference in the Southfield Public Schools, by casting your vote for this 'write-in' candidate on November 2, 2010.
I look forward to working with and for you.
Laura Roseboro, MA.Ed., Ed. Spec.
