Third Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a denomination of over 11,000 congregations and over 5 million people across the country. Third Lutheran Church began in 1880 in the Butchertown area, and moved to its current building on Frankfort Ave., across the street from The Kentucky School for the Blind, in 1931.
Working in the Clifton, Clifton Heights, Butchertown, and Crescent Hills neighborhoods for over 125 years, we like to welcome every person into the community and share our heritage and our hope in our Creator God, and in Jesus Christ.
We are a Reconciled in Christ congregation, and are members of Lutherans Concerned North America. Thus, we have a diverse membership and we joyfully welcome every person, regardless of gender, age, race, cultural background, ethnic or linguistic heritage, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental ability, or economic status. Did we miss anything? If so, you are welcome, too! Our guests and members span a wide range of ages, occupations, education, economic levels, and other religious experiences. In other words, everyone is warmly welcomed here at Third Lutheran Church.
