National Night Out
National Night Out is scheduled every year on the first Tuesday of August. Over 32 million people in more than 9,500 communities join forces to promote crime, drug and violence prevention and neighborhood unity.
National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive an enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer community. The benefits our community derives from National Night Out will most certainly extend beyond this one night.
Schreiner Street worked closely with Candlewood Neighborhood Association to host a National Night Out Party on Tuesday, August 1, 2000. The event was a great success and featured a youth karate demonstration, fingerprinting by police cadets, a neighborhood survey with raffle prizes, a visit by officers from the police department and officials from other city departments, and lots and lots of food and refreshments.
It was wonderful to see all of the neighborhood families and youth who attended. This was a great opportunity to talk to our friends and neighbors about issues and concerns facing the community we live in. By the smiles and comments of everyone involved it's evident that Schreiner Street and Candlewood Way have many more strengths than challenges.
Each year this event and the involvement of our neighbors in neighborhood improvement efforts grows and grows. Together we are making a difference. A special thanks is extended to all who continue to stay involved.
