To my dear neighbors
Again I would like to start this letter by thanking you all both for your participation throughout these years in our community. On March 23, 2002, The Empowerment Congress Southeast Neighborhood Council (ECSEANDC) went before the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (DONE) for the purpose of gaining certification from The City of Los Angeles, this allowing us to be provided with an operating budget.
After a lot of work performed by the ECSEANDC and a quit arduous certification process we were approved, pending new board elections, our certification.
On February 8, 2003 after an equally arduous process of formulating an election process, we had our ECSEANDC elections. Again, I ran for Chair (uncontested). I would like to thank you for your recent support in these and fucture elections were again I was elected Chairperson of the ECSEANDC.
The past 8 years have been quit productive and active for our southeast community. Several projects have been started and a large number of those are nearing completion (for a Partial list of these and the many other SENDC activities view the SOUTHEAST NEIGHBORHOOD 1999 - 2001 Summary Report).
The SENDC is a tireless organization that works on community issues to enhance the quality of life in the Southeast area of Los Angeles. I invite, you to again this term, too join with us in this regard, I also invite you to attend our monthly meeting were you have the opportunity to see community activism in full effect and you will have the opportunity to join in and provide comments. These meeting are held the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Constituent service center located at 8475 So. Vermont Ave. all meetings are held at 6:30 pm sharp.
As we begin this new chapter in the history of the ECSEANDC we must keep in mind that we no longer are under the tutelage of the honorable Mark Ridley-Thomas or his council staff. I am confident that coupled with the knowledge gained these years and your increased support; we can do what is necessary to effect positive and realistic change in our community. I continue to have high hopes for our southeast community neighborhoods and ourselves. I believe that improving our neighborhood is our first priority, and I know to do so requires dedication, and commitment from all of us. Many of us will need to rededicate ourselves to this cause, rebuild our trust in each other, and in the government process of effecting positive change. I am confident that if we can do these things we will realize that at the end of the day we will have made our community neighborhood a safer place for our children and for all Southeast Neighborhood residents.
Let us build together a friendship strong and sturdy, beginning with a trust that is made to last for many years.
With Hope,
Julian Rogers,
Chairperson ECSEANDC (1999-2005)
