About me

My husband Jerry and I moved to Homer about 8-9 years ago, 1st renting a home from Velma (Josie) Noel, and after she passed away we bought her home. I have lived in the Angelina county area since I was about 4 months old except for a few brief periods here and there. My husband moved to Lufkin with his family in the mid 1970’s. Between the two of us we have five children, ranging from 17 to 27 years old, as well as 4 grandchildren.

Why I joined Homer Crimewatch

I met Tish Bryant through a chance encounter on a local message board several months ago, following the article in the paper about the horse thefts as well as other crimes in our area. Although thankfully, as of now I have not had any problem with thefts or break ins, others around me have, so who’s to say I won’t be next? I joined the Homer Crimewatch, and volunteered as a block captain, to try to take some responsibility for my own sense of security. I, like many others, had been so involved in work, home, etc., that I had come to the point that I only really knew one of my neighbors. I did not even know the others names or addresses (which would be useful if I had needed to call 911), much less how to contact them in the event of an emergency. It made me stop and think, if I don’t know how to reach them, who would know how to contact me if something happened at my home while I was away?

My Goal in the Homer Crimewatch

We have all witnessed the changes in the community over the past several years, and I believe it is time for us to join together to do something about it. When you get right down to it, in the end, what affects your neighbor also either directly or indirectly affects you as well. My goal in the Homer Crimewatch is for each of us to educate ourselves to the types of problems in our area, using facts, not hear say and rumors, and what we can and should do to put the message out that criminal activity of any kind will no longer be tolerated in our neighborhood. Yes, it will take time, nothing changes overnight, but if we give up and do nothing, we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
