AROUND THE BLOCK CLUB
MINUTES OF MONTHLY MEETING
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2008
The meeting was called to order by the President, James Burt.
The prayer was given by Rev. Cecil Smith.
Members recited Pledge of Allegiance.
Mr. Wilson read Treasury report. He stated that we have $1,900.52 in our account as of February 19, 2008.
Maxine Toler gave an update on the plastic bags. She has been following up with Danny Tabor. Maxine will try to have bags available for us at our March meeting.The bags will cost the club around $162.00 . Maxine was also able to give an update on the Trees. So, far nine trees have been allocated for planting in our area.
Maxine Toler has offered to give computer training, to any Seniors who are interested in learning how to use the computer. Please see Maxine Toler for more details.
Mr. Burt spoke on CPR Training, and it was mentioned that it would cost $26.00 per person, and that we would need at least ten people to participate in order for a representative to conduct on-site training.
Maxine Toler mentioned we would spotlight all small business owners who have paid their annual $20.00 Block Club Dues, and would like to have their business mentioned.
Bill James gave an community update. Our neighbors on 82nd Street off Victoria were robbed at around 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon. Another neighbor was hit by an car at a local bank. We should all be careful, and also continue to look out for one another. Don?’t argue with your neighbors, call the police. He also informed us that a police officer was stabbed, and shot the young lady. This happened on 85th Street off of West Blvd. Bill will put together a map of the local sex offenders in our area. It was mentioned that there was another accident on Praire and Manchester. Candles were placed at the scene.
Mark Levy mentioned that we have a new chief of police, and that we should invite our new chief to come out to our meeting.
Mr Wilson mentioned that the 100th Anniversary at City Hall did not have a large turn out. Several members mentioned, that the City did advertise about the 100th Anniversary, it was also mentioned with our water bill.
Rose Levy spoke about taking pictures of our members and placing them on our website.
Mark Levy gave an update on the Sound and Insulation Program here in our Community. Since 1992 only 35 homes have been insulated! They are insulating apartments on Crenshaw and 85th Street. Mr Roberts from 85th Street mentioned that his home is currently being insulated, as well as four others on the block of 85th street.
Mark mentiond that we should all invite someone out to our next block club meeting. It would be nice to increase the participation at our meeting.
It was mentioned that some of our neighbors are having a problem with trash and activity that?’s going on around 74th pl and West Blvd.
Phone Tree suggested- Diana Merille will follow up and make calls to the neighbors regarding our block club meeting. Tanya Gatland, will step down as block captain for 80th and Crensahaw, due to her mom?’s illness. Diana Merille offered to step in and take 80th and Crenshaw.
