Hello Airmont Neighbors,
It?’s Neighborhood Association dues time again. On a positive note, our new snow plowing contractor has been doing a great job on the neighborhood. The downside of this is that the recent snows have depleted our treasury. We need your help to rebuild it so we can continue to plow snow. I have talked to friends who live in other neighborhoods and have not found any with dues as low as ours. Please return the enclosed dues notice with your $20 dues check as soon as you can. I promise we will spend it wisely.
While I have the opportunity to communicate with you, I would like to give you an overview of our operation. As you may or may not know, several years ago DelDOT changed their policy and decided they will not plow snow in neighborhoods. The best way to get the snow plowed was to form a Civic Association to collect dues and hire snow plowing contractors. That is the main reason for our civic association, and the vast majority of our expense. We are a legitimate organization, with a tax ID number, and we file an annual income statement with the IRS. The officers who serve are volunteers, and the budget essentially consists of snow plowing, yard sale ads, a donation to the New Covenant Church since they so graciously allow us to meet in their building, and the cost to mail out dues notices. DelDOT will partially reimburse us for times when it snows more than 4?” at the New Castle County Airport. On marginal snows, this usually means we foot the entire bill. There have been some snows where we have measured 4.5?” ?– 5?” here but DelDOT has turned us down. We are still working on changing the rules so that they more accurately reflect the snow plowing burden in our area.
Other than snow plowing, here is a partial list of what the Airmont Civic Association has done for the neighborhood:
- Established website containing useful information, and a neighborhood forum ?“Talk About It?” section. Visit the site at neighborhoodlink.com
- Represented our neighborhood at public meetings for the builders of the Bayberry subdivision going in to our south, the new Vo-tech school being built on Hyett?’s corner road abutting Airmont, and the County Land Use committee.
- Continuing to work with county to resolve the unfinished houses in our neighborhood. Look for some action on this in the near future.
Items that are on the schedule for us to accomplish include a community yard sale, action on the unfinished houses, a meeting with DelDOT concerning new road design in the area, continued communication with Blenheim builders on the Bayberry development, discussions with Whitehall regarding the Scott Run business park.
