Dear Mr. Ray:

On behalf of the Oak Ridge Homeowner?’s Association (ORHA), I would like to request consideration of a reduction in the posted speed limit on Hwy 119 in the area surrounding Mile Marker 23, between the Our Lady of the Valley School, and the Oak Mountain Elementary/Middle School. Both of these school zones have reduced speed limits, however, the speed increases to 55 mph for the one-mile stretch between the two school zones. This section of Hwy 119 includes the entrance to three residential subdivisions (Park Side, Oak Ridge, and Summer Place), three entrances to Heardmont Park, and the entrance to the North Shelby Public Library. None of these entrances are regulated by a traffic light. Our past attempts to obtain a traffic light or warning light were unsuccessful, due to inadequate traffic count at the entrance to our neighborhood. In our opinion, public safety could still be improved by reducing the posted speed limit, at the nominal cost of changing the signs. Thank you in advance for your consideration of this safety suggestion.

Sincerely,

Henry Mark Coby
