Area 2-Neighborhood Services Department

Neighborhood Response Team

What is the Neighborhood Response Team (NRT)

PURPOSE

§ To provide a process for all Area 2 community members and groups to work together to determine and prioritize violations of city codes and ordinances.

§ To ensure those prioritized complaints are directed to the appropriate City department.

§ Provide a forum where feedback on priority complaints is given in a timely manner.

NRT BOUNDARIES

The Neighborhood Response Team in Area 2 is divided into seven (7) geographic Zones. The Zones were determined based on current caseloads and to ensure that existing neighborhood associations were not divided by a Zone boundary. It was also determined that business corridors should not be divided and would be included within a Zone's boundaries in their entirety.

NRT STRUCTURE

Zone Team Includes all interested individuals, neighborhood associations, and business associations, etc. within the geographic boundary of the Zone that choose to participate. The Zone Team meets once a month at a time and location determined by the Zone Team to prioritize cases for their zone.

Zone Captain Chosen by the Zone Team to represent the Zone at monthly NRT meetings conducted by the Neighborhood Services Department. At the NRT meeting each Zone Captain will receive feedback on current cases and will determine whether to remove or leave current cases on the active NRT Log. When cases are removed the Zone Captain is able to replace those cases with new cases that were prioritized by the Zone Team.

Reporters Reports violations to Zone Team members who in turn work with other Zone Team members to prioritize cases within their Zone.

Case Load In order to effectively manage the cases and maintain meaningful progress, each NRT Zone is limited to four (4) active cases each month. Cases that are received by the Zone Team and are not determined to be one of the top four priorities should be called in through the normal process established by each city department.

IN A NUTSHELL….

§ Those living or working in a Zone tell Zone Team Members about serious problems in their neighborhood.

§ Zone Team members use whatever method they agree upon to prioritize complaints.

§ Zone Captains attend monthly NRT meetings with City staff to get updates on existing cases and present new cases.
