Blue Barrels pick-ups

Posted in: Willo
At one time there were attempts to have the blue barrels pick up in the alleys where it seem logical they would be pick up. What happen?

I don't know if others are having problems with pick up, but my street has more & more parked cars and cut through traffic on it. If it happens on pick up day and the trucks find it difficult to get to the barrel, yours remains full. I don't blame them with insurance considerations.

I'm thinking of not using the barrel until the city moves pick up to the alley. I suggest all Willo residents unite and protest the street blue barrel pick up to the city.

Reply-Blue Barrel Pick-ups

I would have to totally agree...the Alley pick-up would be more beneficial to all, (the City AND the residents).
Living on Holly St., between 1st Avenue and 3rd Avenue, It is becoming more congested every day, making recycle pick-up harder for all concerned. I am sure that this will only increase (traffic) with the proposed closure (cul-de-sacs) at Almeria and Coronado..
The alley pick-up would also be beneficial, and probably reduce time/money for the City, as the Refuse Trucks would only have to make one run in an alley instead of two runs per street.

Put it in Driveway Apron

I agree it is a problem. As you said, when a car is parked too close to a barrel, they skip it; it has happened to me. However, when I phoned them that I needed it emptied, they made a special trip and picked it up that day. This city provides great service!

Maybe if you put the barrel in the center of the apron of your driveway, it will keep cars far enough from it to get picked up.

Blue Barrel in apron

Thanks Curt,

I've had to do that on occasion but then when I arrive home after work, I must stop by vechicle in the street, get out and move the barrel, get back in my vechicle and move that into the driveway. Why should I or any homeowner have to do that when there is an alleyway behind their homes where ALL other trash is pick-up?

As to the city service, they would provide even better service picking up the barrels in the alley. One must also wonder..... how cost effective is it for the city to run out for a special pick up, when past by in the routine service.

Thanks again Curt for your thoughts.
