Rita Ranch gets Bookmobile

The Tucson-Pima public library bookmobile will make its monthly stop in Rita Ranch on July 27.
The bookmobile will park at the southwest corner of Nexus and Valenica Roadsand remain at the intersection from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The purpose of the bookmobile is to provide library service to the rural areas of Pima County, said library technical assistant supervisor Wade Zelenak.
The bookmobile also provides services to areas within the city limits that do not have a library, he said.
''The customers I see would have to drive many miles to get access to books,'' he said.
The bookmobile provides access to a wide variety of materials, including magazines, CDs and DVDs, he said.
Zelenak estimated that there are about 3,000 books on the bookmobile.
The bookmobile visits 17 sites per month and averages about 200 customers each month, he said.
The number of visitors at a site can vary, depending on the location and the time of year, he said.
''Sometimes it gets so crowded it gets hard to move around,'' he said.
The bookmobile comes to Rita Ranch on the fourth Thursday of every month.
It also visits other areas on the Southeast Side, such as Cactus Country RV Park, Old Vail Middle School, and the southeast corner of Sahuarita and Houghton roads.
