National Night Out 2007

Posted in: Midvale Park
On Tuesday, August 7th Midvale park celebrated it's second annual National Night Out. NNO had celebrations in neighborhoods all over the nation. The event demonstrated the unity of neighbors against crime and drugs.

Last year we teammed up with Target, The Tucson Police Department, and The Tucson Fire Department at the park in Oak Brook Villas. Happy with it's success, we labelled it the first annual!

This year we used the event to highlight what people in Midvale Park are doing to make the neighborhood more safe. On the streets of Candice Ann and Carey Belle neighbors started a Neighborhood Watch. They also teammed up with Tucson Clean and Beautiful and Wal-Mart to Adopt the Candice Ann Wash. Neighbors planted and now maintain 7 trees that were donated by Trees for Tucson. The Midvale Park Master Review Board supplied paint so that volunteers from Wal-mart and the neighborhood could paint the wall along the Candice Ann Wash.

Target supplied hot dogs, chips, soda, and all the fixins along with ice and toys for the kids. The Manor At Midvale brought the ice cream sandwiches. Neighbors manned the grill as fire trucks and police cars came to the block party as well as Merna Membrilla from Channel 9.

Many well known dignataries from the city, the county, the fire department, and the police department came to our fine event. At 8:00 PM the neighbors did something never before seen in Midvale Park, a flashlight march!

With a fire truck in front and a police car in back about 30 neighbors marched with their flashlights in hand. As the fire truck and police car lights rolled slowly towards the fire station, families shown their flashlights and chanted ''No more crime No more drugs''. Another escorted group was doing the same thing from northern Midvale Park.

I think our partners in the community and in our departments understood our commitment to a safe, drug free neighborhood. I think more neighbors understood how they could help!
