A note from the president

Posted in: Midvale Park
Hi neighbors! This has been a wonderful week for MVPS! The Arizona Daily Star wrote a story on our seniors program. It was well written and generated several calls from neighbors wishing to help. On Wednesday volunteers got together and talked about the next steps. We decided that setting up the bank account was most important. We also assigned someone to purchase a phone and someone else to start writting the survey. We decided to meet again on Tuesday, August 29.

The neighborhood meeting a week ago Wednesday was a great catalyst for our new year. After elections in May and the summer break we were ready to get back to work. We talked about things that took place during the summer like National Night Out and recieving $2500 seed money from Pro-Neighborhoods to start MVPS. We also welcomed Eliseo Garza. The group was informed about the City of Tucson's Department of Neighborhood Resources. Along with the new City Teams, DNR will help neighborhoods with a wealth of city services.

One of these services is Graffiti Abatement. To allign ourselves with the city's new policy we will need to think about our graffiti policy and modify it to fit with what they are doing. The changes are going to be difficult to work with, but by pulling together and having good discussions we will find a system that works.

Another important thing we talked about was our annual picnic. October 14 will be here before you know it! Officer Rene Gomez has led the way this year securing the heleicopter, TFD, the burgers from Golden Corral and a list that is even better than last year. Peter Rico from Ward 1 has helped with the park reservations, port-a-potties, a roll-off and other city goodies. Susan and Lucia will have their work cut out for them as they try to keep up with these guys. But with your help I'm sure they're going to raise a few eye brows with their ideas and the best picnic yet! We are calling it the 7th annual, but who knows? All the neighbors that helped in the past have different takes on where and when this all started.

I've had some wonderful conversations with the people of Midvale Park. The new found energy that is in our community is contagious. It seems that people on the outside of Midvale Park are taking notice too. I overheard a person describe our neighborhood as ''progressing''. That is exactly right! We are doing many things right. Keep up the good work and God bless Midvale Park.
