Our Neighborhood Streets

Kids in Streets II

I agree with less 100%. Also, I was never told when I purchased my home here that people over 45 were not allowed. That Parkwood was only for families with kids. I will check with my builder though.

Have a nice day
Street Wise

I see that this particular subject has hit a nerve. While I don't have a problem with an occasional game of street hockey, I do get a little annoyed at the herd of children, (and yes, sometimes mine are included in this group) that congregate at the corner of 103rd & Diamond and insist upon standing in the middle of the street, or doing acrobatics on their scooters/skateboards. I admonished my own son for doing this yesterday. Parenting is an incredibly difficult job, and they don't come with instruction manuals. (TV's have more instructions and warnings!)Hopefully this discussion will prompt other parents to at least explain to their kids that they should give the right away to vehicles in our neighborhood. Also, maybe it will prompt parents of older teenagers, who seem to delight in squeeling around the curves, to please slow down, and be more careful. I know the streets are for vehicles, and the speed limit on cheshire is 25 mph, but the smaller residential streets dictate slower speeds, as well as caution and good judgement. You can teach your children respect, and courtesy, until you are blue in the face, and hope that it is sinking in. But... they are still unpredictable, and usually do not use very good judgement! And (sometimes painfully so) this is a part of the learning process. Our job as adults and parents is to extend the same respect and courtesy we expect, after all, children learn by example.
Children in the Streets

I agree with what Les said and I am also very happy to see that there is a parent that understands. It is funny that Diamond was mentioned because I drive that street between Valle Verde and Stilton and it is just terrible. Their are always children playing in the street. There are also many cars always parked on the street so often they are hard to see. The parents seem to stand and watch to see what the drive will do while saying nothing to their children. It is time to be a parent and let your kids know that it is much safer to get out of the street when a car is approaching and don't depend on the driver. Kids are great and I have had a few of my own let's make sure they have the advantage of knowledge.

KIDS

Its very sad to see that people seem to be having a problem with ''our'' kids. The parks and the common areas are fine for play but not for bikes, skateboards and scooters. That leaves sidewalks or streets. I can't imagine the letters we would be reading if the kids were using those items on the sidewalks. I for one, am happy that we live in a nice neighborhood where the kids can be out and playing safely. I agree that SOME of the kids may be using the streets in an unsafe manner but its not all of them.Come on folks, these are kids we are talking about. So we as adults have to go a little slower, and watch out a little bit.So what.Let the kids have fun.If its really that much of a problem talk to the kids or their parents on an individual basis instead of blaming all the kids. The streets belong to them just as much as they do to us and this is,for the most part, a family area.
