Become a Master Composter and Recycler

Mar 02, 2005

How can you become an expert in composting and recycling, meet new people, and participate in interesting events, all while serving your community? By becoming a Denver Master Composter and Recycler!

Denver Recycles, Denver Urban Gardens, and Metro Wastewater Reclamation District are now recruiting for people interested in backyard composting and recycling education for the 2005 program. As a participant in this popular program, you would receive 40 hours of instruction in compost science, bin construction, worm composting, recycling and solid waste management, urban gardening and community outreach. Serious stuff, but we make it fun!

Classes will begin at the end of February 2005. Each participant is required to return 40 hours of community service teaching composting and recycling to Denver residents. Participants have a year to complete this requirement. The goal of the program is to make home composting and recycling a common practice throughout Denver in order to minimize the amount of waste that must be collected, hauled and landfilled.

Denver Recycles, Denver Urban Gardens and Metro Wastewater Reclamation District select up to 30 trainees annually for the program. Anyone is welcome to apply and applicants need not be experienced in composting or recycling.

Applicants will be invited to a short interview in January/February to learn more about the program. For more information or to register, please contact Denver Urban Gardens at 303-292-9900 or e-mail your contact information to DenverRecycles@ci.denver.co.us and they?’ll contact you for an interview.
