Those of you who are HOA members in good standing who diligently mail your dues payments in on time need to be made aware of the way you will be treated if your financial institution bounces one of your checks in error.
Our CREDIT UNION made a mistake that caused our checks for HOA dues to bounce. They admitted they erred & returned to us the bounced check fees they had assessed.
My husband alerted Hammersmith rep, who rudely told him that was tough luck - they only send the checks through once & we would have to pay the $15 fee per check regardless of what happened.
To add insult to injury, we later received a certified letter from Sue Daigle that promised us dire consequences if we didn't show up in person with cash or a cashier's check (I had already sent replacement checks prior to receiving the letter). The letter was written in a manner that was extremely threatening & offensive.
We have lived in Tuscany for 9 full years & have never had a late payment for dues. The checks were mailed on April 3 & were returned to Hammersmith on April 8 - had they sent them through again, the checks would've cleared before the April 10 deadline.
Whose idea was it to immediately assess a fee & refuse to send checks through a second time? Is this a gimmick to increase the HOA fund? Was it the HOA that decided circumstances & history should not be considered if a check bounces? Isn't the HOA made up of our neighbors? Did our neighbors really intend for Hammersmith to treat homeowners in good standing as though they were criminals?
There is absolutely NO excuse for this kind of heavy-handed treatment, especially considering the circumstance. I think it's time the HOA reviewed the policies & whether it really wants to give Hammersmith license to threaten & offend homeowners.
