For anyone who missed it, last night's town hall meeting at Bowie was a thing of beauty! Can you believe members of the CCHOA and SOS on the same stage (and they weren't trying to kill one another)???
It's nice to know that community opposition to the planned Wal-Mart is so overwhelming it can't help but unite even the most polar of opposites. The auditorium was packed full of a cross section of 500 people who refuse to be taken in by the Wal-Mart smoke screen.
Give Wal-Mart credit for one thing. At least they showed up! They failed to answer community concerns in any meaningful way, but at least they had the guts to sit there and take it. Endeavor, the so-called local developer of the tract, didn't even respond to the invitation!
The evidence against a project the size of the Super-Center is so overwhelming! If Wal-Mart pushes forward, it will be against the forces of basic logic - as well as a community united in STRONG opposition! I'm now convinced we can mount a credible PR campaign that will do serious damage to Wal-Mart's image and bottom line.
It won't be pretty, but it's the only way to deal with a company that seems to pride itself in being America's biggest corporate thug. Believe me, if we don't stop them here, it will get much worse. At last night's meeting, the Wal-Mart Rep. hinted the company would ultimately like to see a Super-Center located EVERY THREE MILES, throughout central Texas!!
