Great turnout! 800 people !!!

Thanks for coming out, even though parking at UT was limited.

Roughly 3 out of 4 were from South or SW Austin. I know this, because I stood at the door with Sal and he asked everyone one who walked in!

The message was loud and clear about how a tool road on 1 mile stretch of Mopac over William Cannon made no sense at all.

There was no vote after this hearing. However, they will consider the input and comments, and what the CAN DO, is to add an amendment to the current plan, to leave out the toll road on south Mopac.

To be fair, there were other concerns. The over all message seemed to be, ''Toll roads are a good thing for NEW ROADS, not for existing roads''.

1) We have already paid for the right of way and initial building costs for existing roads. Adding toll lanes to existing roads just won't go over well.

2) The big campaign launched by the ''Citizens for Mobility'' group, is a marketing front for the road building corporations, which included BRUCE TODD (remember him - our former Austin mayor who is helping Wal-Mart get through the city's zoning process).

The Mobility lobby paid to send you those letters and maps that promoted ''A BOLD SOLUTION TO OUR TRAFFIC....''. They had the Ausitn Camber of Commerce and the Austin Realtor's behind this pitch.

They chose to wear green stickers that said ''TOLL ME !'' ?

More questions were raised about he rush to accept this plan, which only included the south Mopac toll road section about 3 weeks prior to this hearing.

Oh, and the Bob Daigh (''Day'') guy ( TxDOT District Engineer) - he still can't get his story straight! He bobbled direct questions from our Travis County commissioner, Gerald Daugherty and then from our state rep, Terry Keel.

I think the vote on this issue will not come up until their July meeting, based on comments made tonight.

Now that you know what you missed, catch it on TV. KEYE, KXAN, and Ch 8 were all there tonight !

Now, take 10 minutes of your time and write a short email. Tell them what you think. The hearing is over, but you can still send in emails.

----------------

Thank you for your email and input on the proposed toll road plan pending before the CAMPO transportation planning board. The public hearing on 5/10 did not end until after 11pm, but I stayed until the end to listen to all viewpoints during the lengthy hearing. The board
unanimously voted to delay consideration of the proposal until our July 12 meeting, giving time for additional meetings to be held in the, community. The opportunity for written comment has been extended until June 25. The feedback I've received has been helpful, instructive and on point.

Stay tuned---and thanks again for weighing in on this important topic---
