Candidate Forum - Thursday, Feb 4th

Mr. Quentin Fennessy, the newest CCHOA director and a member of the Nominations committee, opened the forum. Tony Gluckert and Allen Young, also from the committee, were in the audience. The forum rules allowed each candidate a 5 minute introduction. The order was randomly chosen. Then the order was reversed and they each had 5 minutes to respond to a list of written questions from the CCHOA members. Questions from the audience were also answered.

Bob Alexander, Marty Gibbs and Steve Urban were not present. Bob?’s wife, Angela, read a prepared statement from him. Russ Hodes spoke on behalf of Steve Urban, using the information Steve provided to the Nominations committee, which can now be reviewed on the CCHOA web page for all the candidates. Note, this PDF document is over 30 pages, but it is expected to be included with your proxy materials on March 9th.

All of the speakers seemed to be focused on the same issues, offering very similar views. They each cited their previous experience as qualifications to dedicate their time, to review the CCHOA books, examining the issues around the community pool, trying to find a way to get some pocket parks and playscapes installed, and using technology (our CCHOA web site) to enhance our communications needs. Everyone agreed that we should be using one vote per house, and all admitted that making that change does not appear to be an easy task.

All of the candidates had different backgrounds with a variety of professional skills and experience. Quentin Fennessy noted that the ballots will list 11 candidates by name and allow space for all the write-in candidates you can think of. However, any ballot with more than 5 names on it, will be discarded. The order of the names on the ballot has not been determined. The proxy form will be the same as the last one, with the addition of a field for the date. You can sign your proxy Jim O?’Reilly, who?’s name will appear on the proxy, or to any other CCHOA member on the open line provided.

My own opinion is that each of the candidates appears to be well informed about the CCHOA issues and each has excellent qualifications for holding office. I thank them for coming forward to generously volunteer their time and offering the community their leadership. All of them appear to be personable, accessible, and able to work well with each other. I think we fielded an excellent group and now we have to a chose the 5 best out these 11 heros.

Looks like we've already come a long way. Does this mean that Ken Rigsbee is not running for re-election? Has he endorsed anyone?
