Due to the high interest and large numbers of cocerned home owners, the Wildflower Center has moved their Town Hall meeting on Wed, July 2nd, to Bowie High School.

7-9 PM.

There will be signs posted at the Wildflower Center for anyone who doesn't get the update and Bowie has much better parking.

In addition, we now know that former Mayor Frank Cooksie has agreed to host the event. Endeavor has declined an invitation and the Wal-Mart representatives have not responded to their invitation.

Who can blame them? Who would even want to stand in front of 500 angry home owners and try to tell them that the project is good thing ?

CCHOA has been asked to send a resolution agains the Wal-Mart project for this meeting, as many of the other HOAs are doing the same thing tomorrow. Solidarity is important. If we can get the same neighborhoods that Endeavor had targeted in their flyer, future clients will begin to question their other numbers (like the traffic study).

Endeavor really screwed up with this thing. . . it's too bad, they are really nice group of engineers who live in and around Austin.

Better Get Media Coverage...

If both Endeavor and Walmart have bailed out - we better get some good media coverage...And that makes it even more important for a big crowd. If no one shows then we will have blown our credibility.

Is there any plan to post flyers on the Circle C post office boards? If they let them stay up that might bring a few people.

Also, have any members of the city council agreed to attend? I know the issue likely won't come up before them - but if a few turned out, that would make a statement, and help bring in some media...

The TV and print media are alerted and will get an update first thing in the morning.

Turn out IS critical. Even if you have heard all the issues at the Circle C Town Hall, please come to the next one at Bowie. This is where all the the Wildflower Center has invited everyone and every homeowner in the area.

Bring your kids with you, even if you only stay long enough to sign in and have to leave early. Please come. This is one event that counts and you won't have to get sunburned !


OK. There will be reminders. Poster, signs, and even some activity in the streets. Like I said, HONK, WAVE, and support your neighbors in this peaceful demonstration of solidarity and look for the NO WAL-MART signs.

It's important. This is your turn to do the right thing at the right time.

I'll check on posters for the mail centers, but I have a feeling you won't need them !! We know how to do this.

I have also written the CCHOA board and asked for a resolution opposing this project and to join the other HOA's and civic organizations that will attend the July 2nd meeting at Bowie High School.

Endeavor Real Estate Group, based in Austin, is selling a portion of a 43-acre tract of land in the Barton Springs Recharge Zone to Wal-Mart for a new SuperCenter. Sited at the corner of Slaughter and MoPac, the SuperCenter is proposed at 51% impervious cover, over three times the amount allowed by the Save Our Springs Ordinance. The development would generate an estimated 13,800 vehicle trips per day over the most sensitive groundwater supply in Texas. Company principals have admitted that the water quality controls they've proposed on the property will be inadequate to manage pollutants.

The neighbors surrounding the proposed development are concerned about the increased traffic, noise pollution, light pollution, and water pollution. Because the only access to the development will be from Slaughter and Davis Lanes, all traffic destined for the shopping center will flow through the neighborhoods. There is already a Wal-Mart less than 4 miles away, and many worry that it will close once the new store is built, leaving yet another empty big-box retail building.

Neighborhood associations and groups including Sendera, Circle C, the Villages of Western Oaks, Deer Park, Save Barton Creek Association, S.O.S Alliance, and others have formed the No-Aquifer-Big-Box Coalition to oppose this development.

There will be a Town Hall meeting on July 2 at Bowie High School from 7:00-9:00 p.m. to discuss this proposed development. There will be brief presentation from neighborhood representatives living near the property, expert hydrologists, Save Our Springs Alliance, followed by question and answer with interested citizens like you. Representatives from Wal-Mart and Endeavor have been invited but may not attend. Please attend on Wednesday night to learn more about how this proposed Wal-Mart will affect neighborhoods in the area, quality of water entering the Edwards Aquifer, and learn what you can do to get more involved.

Wal-Mart is the first national company that the federal government has taken an enforcement action against for multi-state violations of nation storm water pollution regulations under the Clean Water Act, including 11 construction sites in Texas.
