I wonder how many people read the article in last week's Statesman reporting that a new HEB store is to be constructed on Slaughter at Escarpement.


Now that we have chased off a very nice Super Walmart at a very convenient location, all those trucks we were concerned about will be running through the middle of our neighborhood night and day.

I hope all the ''aginners'' are happy about this..I'm certainly not.

I don't believe one has anything to do
with the other. I heard discussion of
the HEB development before any mention
of a Walmart. The Walmart was to be
built on SR Ridge Ltd property, and the
HEB site is Stratus property.

Read the fact sheet. The HEB will be well off of Slaughter - on the north side. It was either that or a bunch of ugly Apartment buildings similar to the ones on the corner of Mopac and Slaughter.

I didn't see the article and I'll try to look it up. I think an H.E.B. would be much better than another collection of apartments, too!

I trust them to build responsibly which is what I understand Stratus has agreed to. However, I also heard that they want a 24x7 and I don't think that's appropriate.

I think there wmay be a little bit of a rush to build out here, especailly for the stores over 50,000 square feet, because the city appears to be serious about revisiting the current zoning for larger stores - ''Big Boxes''.

HEB did a nice job on their store at William Canon and Bordie lane. If that's any indication of what they have in minde, I think it would enhance the neighborhood. I'm a little worried about the Dry Goods (TVs, BBQ Grills, Fertilizers, toys, and Lawn Furniture)that more and more grocery stores are trying to stock. They look like they are slowly trying to morph into a Wal-Mart Supercenter !?
