I would like to start a dialog with my neighbors about this.
In case you were unaware, the city council has approved a plan to "improve" Grandview Park. To quote - "Improvements to Grandview Park include building two new 20-foot wide boat ramps with floating docks, and a new wooden boardwalk and observation deck to connect the northern and southern parts of the park. “It’s a park that really hasn’t had anything done to it in a long time,” says Quintana of Grandview’s need for improvements. The park will also undergo improvements such as a new restroom building, a new large picnic shelter, a walking path, two new fishing docks, security lighting throughout the park and a larger more sustainable parking lot."
Sounds nice, however, Grandview is already dangerous at night because of the homeless and drug users sleeping and squatting there. There are no rest rooms now, what will the homeless population reach with the addition all these new facilities.
The city has not included in the budget for a security guard. As with all the major parks in St. Pete, night time security has become a necessity. Remember the gruesome murder in Coquina park a few months ago?
Park expansion has the real potential for a substantial increase in crime and loitering in our nice neighborhood.
