City of Bellemeade

Sidewalk Installation

Posted in: Bellemeade - Bellemeade

Was that so hard?!?!?!

I only had to ask Three (3) times.

Why is Metro making contact?  aren't you their Mayor?

I only just saw this post this morning.

It is a metro project and their job to make the contact.

Mayor, this lady and others have been asking these questions for a long time and you have sidestepped them just like you sidestep other issues.  Are those houses that are affected in Bellemeade or not?  If they are you are weak for laying it off on Metro.  They are in Bellemeade and it was YOUR job to look out for the people in Bellemeade PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Tell me I am wrong.

And is this project not being paid for by a grant from Councilman Ackerson TO Bellemeade?  Does it not then become a Bellemeade project?  Did not the Bellemeade City Commission vote to put the sidewalks there?  Yes!  Did the Metro Council vote to put the sidewalks there?  No!!!  Who is going to clean the snow and ice off the sidewalks?  If any of those residents are seniors, is Bellemeade or Metro going to clean the sidewalks for them or will they be left in jeopardy?  Who will be sued when one of those people who make a living by regularly slipping on wet floors in restaurants look at one of those nice houses on Shelbyville Road and say, "Damn, this looks like a good place to pay for my Christmas or a new car or a lifetime supply of meth."

Larry, when that happens to one of those nice folks up there who are residents of Bellemeade, what is your answer going to be?  Who is going to pay the attorney to defend them in a bodily injury civil suit?  I am going to go up there and explain to those folks what can potentially happen to them.  Thanks reba for your concern.  Did anyone at the meeting give you any answer?  Did the Bellemeade attorney look into the liability issues before the commission voted to put in the sidewalks?  Or, is this another Knee-jerk Larry Project?

Council Jon Ackerson and I have been emailing, and he is suppose to get me a copy of the planned sidewalk from Public Works.  He says the sidewalk will be in the public easement, and that metro becomes responsible; However, when someone is injured....EVERYONE is sued!  the Metro, City of Bellemeade, and The Homeowner!    Even though it is in the public easement it is up to the Homeowner to maintain!  just like mowing the lawn out there on that easement!

Our city commissioners have dropped the ball on the citizens!  Bellemeade has promissed to pay for part of this sidewalk..... (all because UL wants it!)

Jon Ackerson apologized for missing the previous meeting. He presented a report on

proposed sidewalks (attached). Costs were broken down into sections along

Shelbyville Road. $187,133.50 is the total for all sidewalk work and Metro will only

cover part of the cost. He stated that it would likely be a multi-year project and that

Bellemeade would have to contribute some of the cost probably 30%. Possibly TARC and MSD would contribute and there may be federal money. He knows that Metro will contribute $15,000 minimum and possibly more. The goal is connectivity of all sidewalks.

Mayor Odom-Groh moved that the sidewalk be built from Shelby Campus to Chadwick Road (item #2 in proposal - attached) which will be funded entirely by Metro Louisville funds and that Chadwick to Bellemeade Road will be considered later (#3). Mr Ackerson said Metro will cover this cost for the sidewalk from Shelby Campus to Chadwick. The City of Bellemeade is making no financial commitment at this time.

You are correct...  My question is the "grant" money from Ackerson that was discussed and had a group to plan it's use, Mr Elliott was head of... is that grant $ being used for this portion of the sidewalk???

And it's only a matter of time before THEY want all the project complete and Bellemeade will have to pay.  You're giving them an inch.....

What happened to that money?
