FURTHER UPDATE:  A fourth vehicle was broken into in the 200 block of North Chadwick Road.

Our appeal to LMPD in the face of these and other breakins was well recieved; we have been notified that latewatch officers have been instructed by 8th Division Command to step up patrols in Bellemeade.  They asked for our assistance by making our vehicles less lucrative targets by removing laptops, iPads, iPods, GPS's, and other valuables and by calling LMPD promptly to report suspicious activity.  Notify your Block Captain after you have called LMPD.

Unfortunately I was one of the victims on Southampton. I always park my
car in the garage so it was fine but my daughter was visiting from California
for the holidays and came over in a borrowed car. She had a laptop and a lot of
high end camera equipment taken from the car. They got in by breaking the
passenger window. I do have video surveillance on my house but the lighting was
terrible so I can’t really see much that could help the police. On the video, I
did see a car pull in front of my house around 1:00am, two people get out and
run down my neighbor’s driveway. That’s when they did a “smash and grab” on the
car in my driveway and my neighbors. It happened really quickly. Like in 25
seconds. Thats how fast you could lose a lot of money, so take any valuables out
of your car. Hope someone sees this and saves themselves some grief.

Another side note… My daughter locked her car so they had to smash the window to gain entry. My neighbor’s car was unlocked so at least today she didn’t have to deal with
getting a window repaired. So the question is, is it worth locking your car doors?

Thanks for sharring this.

I will contact the mayor to receive the information.  I completely understand the importance of keeping contact information private.

May I suggest that all block captains make an extra effort to reach out to neighbors that are not involved.  We have never received any information about the block watch.  In fact, we were not even aware that there were block captains until I stumbled across this site.  There may be neighbors that want to be involved and just need information.
