I am concerned about the number of seemingly stray cats in our neighborhood and will soon be making an inquiry to the City for information or assistance in establishing either a catch/spay/release program, or work to get the cats picked up and taken to shelters/animal rescue groups. I will talk to the HomeOwners association before initiating any of this, and work with them to pass information around in advance.
I am the owner of two cats whom I allow outdoors under supervision, and always with collars on. My concern is over several increasingly aggressive cats instigating fights (likely because they are not spayed), and the general health of other cats in the neighborhood - I have seen a number of cats run into the sewers and can only imagine some of the diseases or health issues they harbor. Almost none of the cats running around the neighborhood wear collars, making it very difficult to contact their owners in cases of aggression or to determine whether they are stray. Thus going to the city and initiating some sort of capture program seems the only option. Other comments, thoughts and concerns are welcome.
