The heavy rains this year in San Diego County have caused an increase in the rodent population, causing more rattlesnake sightings already in March.

Please be very careful with your pets and kids!  An Australian Shepherd was killed recently near the Carmel Valley/Del Mar area by a bite to its neck while sniffing around in a bush on leash with its owner.

Rattlers of any size are dangerous; seems all year round lately.  Increased rattlesnake season is happening now through late Fall.  Very few Vets in San Diego carry the anti-venom due to the high cost.  Check with your Vet.

Thanks for the info.  Just to let everyone know that my dog has come home with Ticks two times from the field adjacent to Black Mountain Road at Carmel Valley Road on the South West side.  So be careful.. I have not seen any snakes around here yet but as you stated the rodent population will be large this year, mosquitoes too.
