This year?’s Fourth of July Block Party on Vista once again put Bluff Heights on the map. Dennis Snyder, Christine Votava, and the Vista crew outdid themselves (which is quite a feat, considering their amazing talents!) Ask anyone who attended to recount the fun of competing, ?“musical chairs?” style, for the decorated cake of his or her choice in the fabulous Cake Walk game?—or, the excitement of winning a beautiful prize at the ?“opportunity drawings?”?—or, the joy of dunking Councilman Dan Baker and others inour tank.
Beyond the fun, food, games, and prizes, though, the impression that lingers is this: what a great neighborhood we have! This is one special place?—not just because of our balmy weather, proximity to the beach, access to major freeways, or even rising real estate values.
No, it is about the quality of the people who live here. Notice, I said, ?“live here,?” not ?“own property here.?” The Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association is just that?—an organization for everyone who lives, works, plays, prays, goes to school, or does business here. We also welcome anyone and everyone who shares an interest in the values we espouse: dedication to the safety and beauty of the neighborhood, belief in community, and commitment to the area?’s historic preservation.
From time to time, I have been approached by renters who tell me they would like to participate in our organization but think it is only for homeowners. We need your help in changing that perception. In fact, we need someone to step forward and volunteer to represent renters?’ interests at our monthly Board meetings?—the first Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Believe me, there is plenty of work to do; we need and want your input, creativity, ideas, and work.
