Should Garden Acres Association neighborhood watch look into applying for non-profit status.
This link provides information regarding the benefits of becoming a non-profit organization. This is not a fun process. I have done it one time before and it took nearly a year. The tax advantages are nice for folks that enjoy investing in their local community. The other advantage is the ability to apply for grants for neighborhood improvement and the ability to do fund raising for the local PD and Fire department.
The better scenario I see would be a city wide oranization for fund raising and assistance to small startup neighborhood watch groups. Once the organization is that size it becomes a full time job. Who will invest that time?
These are just some thoughts.
