Location
Bowling Green is located 23 miles south of Toledo in Northwestern Ohio. It is 240 miles east of Chicago, 120 miles west of Cleveland, and 115 miles north of Columbus. Located at the intersection of U.S. Routes 6 and 25 (both Interstate 75 and Route 6 bypass the City), Bowling Green is 15 miles from the Ohio Turnpike.

The City of Bowling Green has an average annual temperature of 50.1 degrees with 55% relative humidity. The average high is 59.6 degrees and the average low is 44.6 degrees. Average annual participation is 31.46 inches, and the average annual snowfall is 32 inches.
Government
The city of Bowling Green has a Charter form of government, which provides for an elected Mayor and a full-time appointed Municipal Administrator. The Council is composed of seven members, one from each of four wards and three members at-large, one of whom is elected as Council President
History
Bowling Green was established in 1832 when Elisha Martindale came down the old aboriginal trail toward Haskin's Place and entered a claim to 40 acres of land near where the Ferris Myrice Property is located, across from Conneaut School on Haskins Road. Over the next 10 years settlement clustered on and along of series of sand ridges and knolls near the intersection of Napoleon Road and South Main Street. Near the south end of this settlement stood the Walker-Stauffer cabin, which housed the first post office. According to legend the City received its name when the postal carrier, Joseph Gordon, named the post office after his hometown, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
In 1855, Bowling Green was incorporated as a village, with John C. Wooster being elected the first mayor in 1856. In 1900, Bowling Green gained city status.
Bowling Green State University, the City's largest employer, was established by law in 1910 with classes starting in 1914. Today it is a major institution of higher learning, with 17,000 students.
