Teacher's Contract

Posted in: Braintree
The law which everyone is quoting as the valid law which allows the SC to honor their contract without a vote of town meeting states the contract can not be longer than THREE YEARS!

''Chapter 150E: Section 7 Collective bargaining agreements; term; appropriation requests; provisions; legal conflicts, priority of agreement

Section 7. (a) Any collective bargaining agreement reached between the employer and the exclusive representative shall not exceed a term of three years. The agreement shall be reduced to writing, executed by the parties, and a copy of such agreement shall be filed with the commission and with the house and senate committees on ways and means forthwith by the employer.''

As I read it it says the

Contract between the School Committee
and the teachers union is for three years maximum, I could be wrong, have
been before.What think you?

Yes

That's why two contracts were signed. One is for one year, and the second is for three years.

By You are Correct
Two Contracts

There are two contracts not one. How come this was never reported in any of the papers. This means the SC is trying to circumvent the laws of Massachusettes which allow for ony a three year contract. I would guess there is a purpose for the state to prohibit more than a three year contract. It wasn't reported that there was two votes at the teachers' union meeting or that there was two votes at the school committee meeting, I would think there would have to be a vote for each contract. Something is really fishy in Braintree.
