More than Egan

I think a lot of the articles on Town Meeting are campaign tactics of Mr. Chuck Bucks. Reducing Town Meeting to 144 without even a mention of precincts or reasons, a ''plan'' to address our capital needs without speaking with the capital planning committee, moving the DPW to the Torrey school so that it isn't vacant any longer without any thought towards the vacancies that the move would cause and on and on.

Let's face it, Special Town Meeting hasn't been for ''emergency'' types of things for a long time now and it is really just another meeting. I don't fault Egan with his proposal because it is about time that we did something and I don't see his effort as a campaign tactic. From my reading of his article, he has put a lot of work into it and is doing what he thinks is the right thing to do. I just wish the other articles that are on the warrant demonstrated as much effort and information as Mr. Egan's.

I'll be voting no on many of the Selectmen articles because they leave a lot of questions to b e answered. I'm considering voting Yes on Egan's article because it seems to be thorough but I am waiting until Town Meeting to decide.

If our illustrious exec.sec. is going to be with us for at least another year, why is this a time sensitive decision? We're going to have to pay her either way so we might as well keep her working and work this out in the spring. As for town meeting, town meeting lost its effectiveness a long time ago. Department budgets are passed with nary a question being asked, but raise a fee from $25 dollars to $50 dollars and we argue for one hour about whether it's a tax or a fee. And that's only the tip of the iceberg. The system is broke and needs to be fixed, but October is not the time. It should be done in May.

18B Town Manager - opposed (I'd like a Town Manager, but an elected one opposite a Town Council - not this polished-up BOS lackey).

19 quick STMs- favorable (even though TMMs will just complain that everything at the special should be taken care of in May.)

25 W/S to Torrey - undeciced (Are we trading one vacant building for another? If so, count me out.)

One night - there is no need for more than 1 night. Do you hear me Chuck, Tim, Carl Johnson, Rick DePolo, and anyone else who prolongs TM to just to hear the sound of their own voice.

Doesn't matter

You can't have a town meeting if the Moderator doesn't show up. And from what I've been hearing, he's been AWOL since May.
