Town of Braintree

WE HAVE NO NEED TO OVERRIDE

Posted in: Braintree
Once it was a vocation to become a teacher, now it's just another career. My daughter is a teacher, so I have some knowledge of what I speak. She is as disgusted as many of us, at the manner in which the union dictates the teaching profession direction.

These public government type are looking at the easy way out out every time. Their self centeredness and insatiable thirst to eat the town's limited budget is a disgrace. Moreover the school committee saps and their liberal spend, even though there is no money, are irresponsible! Maureen Clark is the worst of all! No one on the school committee have a clue how to improve education. Their answer is always throw many at it. WRONG answer. Money has not solved the continuing degradation of public schools, and it will not. Competition will though, but the damn teachers union fights competition with it money. Wake up Voters. Vote all school committee incumbent out; they are spending money that does not exist.

As for the teachers; go ahead as you are trying to suck us dry. You are killing the golden goose. Your union president is leading you all over the cliff, and like those lemmings you continue to follow. Get ready; as a town meeting member I will fight your wage contract and oppose any dept exclusion that calls for money to pay for you contract. You are self centered.

Longevity PLUS

In addition to the 1, 2, 3, and 4 percent increase the teachers are getting, they are getting an increase in longevity pay of $150 for 20 years, $375 for 25 years and $500 for 30 years of service. The contract calls for an extra personal day off with NO reason being given for this additional day off. They are also going into the ''Lexington Plan'' whereby a teacher giving three years notice of retirement can add $2000 per year to their base salary each year. This amount of money counts as pensionable dollars and will increase a teacher's retirement income by $1600 annually if they retire with maximum benefits. Under which budget is this increased cost being carried? There were also other minor cost items included in this contract.
In my opinion, the School Committee went way too far in accommodating the teacher's demands in these financially trying times. The SC obviously cares little about the taxpayer that has to pay these costs.

Fin Guy

School Committee members didn't call the tax payers fiscally responsible, they called us selfish; certainly you remember that.

CHAIRMAN BOS
He served on this negotiations committee and was quoted as saying this was a fair contract for the teachers. Is he going to step up to the plate and offer a fair contract to the rest of the Town Employees?

Property Taxes

Along with the question to override
prop 2 1/2 should be a question to cut
our property taxes by 85% from what
it is now.

I have seen no proof the town needs the
money and doesn't have money to burn.
(And no i'm not taking your word for it.)

You sound surprised that chrome dome
supported this gift to the teachers. Who
do you think got him elected? He changes
oil, repairs tires and tows vehicles in
his real life. He has to go ext time.
hopefully Joe Powers can reign him in.
