Today's Globe has proven what we thought might be true. Let's bring our public school system down a peg or two off the pedestal some have perched it upon. Braintree's schools rank 112th in the Commonwealth. Most of the Bay State League communities compared with Braintree reflect higher rankings. We could give our schools a B- ranking. It isn't a B, B+ or A- contrary to what Kramer and his Clones would like us to believe. For more than half of Braintree's tax dollars, I expect more, better and until I see that improvement, let's end the holier than thou attitude that our schools are top shelf. Mediocrity at this cost is unacceptable. School Committee members must raise the bar on their administration and faculty and now isn't soon enough.

look t the whole picture
If you read the whole paper, you'd see the direct link to increased MCAS scores is smaller class sizes. Instead of reducing class sizes we are closing schools. We need to pass 2 1/2 if we want to get back to being on the upper tier of education. People need to realize that not paying the increase in taxes will cost them allot more when property value decreases. People are not going to be paying top dollar for a town with second rate schools.

What Drugs ARe You On?
I think you have it wrong here. Location, location, location. Schools are second to location in selecting a community - a prominent second for sure! Tax rate, public services, and community reputation fall in behind. Let's not overlook location!
As far as the schools go, people need to begin to wake up big time that our schools ranked #112 isn't good enough for me for the bang of the proportioned tax dollars that our schools are funded each year. It's time for better teacher accountability and don't fall into the class size cesspool argument that equates to first rate school systems. Our numbers are not that excessive as it is. Just look at the school department's class size listings of each school. They are acceptable by any standard. It's a useless wornout argument. Teachers, you want a raise? Earn it!

Location, Location, Location
Location, Location, Location!!!
This explains why property in Dorchester and Mattapan is so much more expensive than that in Weston and Sudbury.
Thanks for the insight!
