Town of Braintree

Reynolds hired water/sewer dept

Posted in: Braintree
McMahon is Licensed Engineer

Director of our Department of Public Works is John McMahon who has a degree in Civil Engineering. Position of Director of Water and Sewer Department has no degree for he never went to college. He was appointed by CZAR McMahon under the CZAR's license. CZAR is not an underling of the Water and Sewer Director by organization, but if you watched the two in action, I see what you mean in real life day to day. McMahon couldn't find Dunkin Donuts without Mr. Whalen's chauffering. Says in CZAR's job description that DPW Director would oversee snow removal efforts each storm we get. Funny, from Sudbury where he lives, NEXTEL is his only way to work the long hours mentioned in his job description to ensure our streets and sidewalks are cleared properly because he is never in town after hours here in Braintree no different than our Executive Secretary who is rarely here for anything anyways.

funny you're the first to say
anything bad about that candidate here. I'll have to wait and see
if more join you. by the way, wasn't he a town meeting member then as well?and a water and sewer commissioner by town election after he left the town? do you think that was because he did the job well or because he was popular?have you been a member long enough to remember him well enough if you bump into him at shaws or stop & shop to tell him you tarnished his integrity here? i bumped into him awhile ago and mentioned to him tom was vying for the same position.he told me good luck to him.that's what was conveyed here at this post.

My View
Reynolds has been hired. It was mentioned on this site about ten days ago or so? I understand he's been given an unprecedented two or three years to get the necessary credentials for the job (licenses such as CDL truck driver's license, hoist engineer's hydraulics license, wastewater and potable water engineer's licenses), so it proves to me if he was the best qualified, he had no qualifications other than being in the right place at the right time?
If it is true that former Sewer Dept director Toma was a candidate, I'm actually surprised he wouldn't have been hired. He was experienced, licensed, an engineer and has worked in water & sewer agency work for years and is a born and raised Braintree person? So we hire a politically connected, well liked, but unlicensed, uncredentialed and non-engineer in the place of someone who already knew Braintree's operations? Hmm, do I smell something here?
We hired Whalen, the department executive director who didn't have the credentials because our esteemed DPW Commissioner hired in in the position he is in using ''his license'' stipulated for the executive director's position? So we have an unqualified (credentials wise) executive director and now an unqualified (but best qualified of the many candidates)second in command in that agency? What's wrong with this emerging picture in our DPW agency?

But, He's Qualified Already
What is missing from this character aspersion tossed is that at least one other candidate was 100% qualified, familiar, experienced and a town resident who used to work for the town, but went in another direction
in same sort of work. So now, we have to say he screwed up the Sewer Dept? From my recollection, it wasn't the sewer department that was screwed up, but the extremely troublesome Water Department lead by some real unscrupulous commissioners such as Aiello, Cleggett, McSweeney and the likes. That's 200% true because of the state consent decree against the town that has cost us millions to correct due to their lack of attention to our water system needs. Get your facts correct before chucking aspersions at other candidates for this job.
