Accountability
As the original poster of this message, I agree that joining a mob in and about Kenmore Square to join in the socalled revelry isn't about enjoying an innocent celebration. Anyone and everyone there was there either to participate in out of control mob behavior or just to watch the mobs.
It's on this latter point that I part with the ''innocent bystander'' argument.
It's too bad she did not have the level headed maturity by allowing herself to get caught up with the youthful exhilaration of seeing an out of control mob. This lecture should have been between father and daughter long before. Besides, didn't she live at home? So she must have made her plans known to her parents before leaving home for the day. Where was Dad then ?
Why would an on the job parent allow a young impressionable child go into the city to join in mob revelry ?
With the presence of fully equipped riot police a reasonable person wouldn't or shouldn't even be there.
When the bars closed, GO HOME.
Milling around to watch the excitement only makes you part of the problem.
By joining the mob you accept the personal responsibility for yourself.
Your personal security cannot be guaranteed. You see armored riot police, then it's not about your personal civil rights protection.
GO HOME.
The police want you outa there. GO HOME.
I'm sorry for that girl, but she implicitly accepted responsibility for any and all outcomes by joining an out of control mob.
Finally, maybe other crowd control weapons should have been considered ?
I'm not a police professional but I would expect law enforcement to have carefully considered other crowd control tools. Water cannons ? Mace ? Tear gas ? Foul Smelling Gas bombs ? I don't know. Maybe they did consider other methods.
I do however come down on the side of law enforcement. They have a very difficult job when it comes to mob control.
Lastly, Take a moment of silence for that young girl and with your young adult at home.
