the real reason Bush kowtows to
Ias that he wants el baridei replaced before the UN deals with Iran. Bush showed guts upholding 1441...not getting approval from a UN board that already unanimously approved the measure. Now Bush has the upper hand here. Koffi will be implicated in investigation of food for oil scandal, as will his son...marc rich and by association Bill Clinton. And the Un will be embarrassed into giving the US what it wants. A replacement for el Baridei. And action on Iran. (Not the same old 12 years of failed diplomacy we saw with Iraq). Koffi will not survive Volker's report. No long drawn out inspections...since inspectoers have already documented nuclear materials exist there.BTW...you need to remember Koffi would not allow Volker access to the majority of UN investigative reports on the scandal. Even so AP reports that one major piece of evidence proving corruption was the fact that the UN collected funds for 31 days in June. (there are 30 days in June). Watch...this will mushroom. And Koffi will be replaced. And the US will get thier wish. El Baridei is gone as well.

they Love that Kofi Annan
A poll finds that Europeans have far more regard for UN Secretary General Kofi Annan than Americans.
The Harris Poll surveyed residents of the United States, Britain, France and Germany on which leaders were most likely to provide information about the Millennium Development Goals. Annan topped the list in all three European countries, tying with Bob Geldof at 30 percent in Britain, trusted by 35 percent in France and 43 percent in Germany.
In the United States, Annan ranked 11th. President Bush was the most trusted at 23 percent, followed by Jimmy Carter at 17 percent and Oprah Winfrey at 16 percent. Tom Brokaw and Colin Powell were the only other leaders to break 10 percent.
Two other international leaders, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama, ranked high in Europe.
Harris officials say the latest survey is one more indication of a marked difference in attitudes between Europeans and Americans.

the UN is an accessory to terror
During the past several years, the threat facing the United States of America and much of the world from violent terrorist organizations has grown exponentially. While the United Nations is chartered to promote peace, its actions recently have made it an accessory to terrorist crimes.
This calls for straightforward action by the people of the United States to protect our national interest. Americans must demand our government remove the United Nations from our borders and cease serving as the major financial supporter of an organization that has veered from its original purpose.
The United Nations was originally founded according to its charter ?“to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security.?” However, it has become apparent that leading voices in the United Nations have positioned the organization so that it is increasingly a body that sides with those who find the use of terrorism against unarmed and innocent civilians tolerable.
Instead of serving as a rallying point for free nations and free people to unite to combat terrorism, the United Nations has become a safe harbor, apologist and defender of terrorist organizations and their agents.
In the aftermath of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Kofi Annan has added insult to injury by calling the military operation enforcing UN resolutions ?“illegal.?” This is despite a series of resolutions, including Resolution 1441, which stated, ?“the Council has repeatedly warned Iraq that it will face serious consequences as a result of its continued violations of its obligations.?”
That resolution included a dissenting opinion by three nations. Those nations were France, Russia and China. Evidence has now emerged which implicates those same three nations as being the most actively involved in the UN-Iraq ?“Oil for Food?” corruption scandal.
No longer should the United States of America serve as the host to an institution that serves as a forum for opposition to our national interests. Further, the United States should reexamine the extent of its financial support of such an agency.
The U.S. pays a membership fee to the United Nations of $360 million per year (and billions more in payments to other UN organizations). These are payments made to an organization that is serving as an obstacle in the war against terrorism. That makes no sense, and we must take action to reduce or cancel payment of these fees. [Currently the U.S. pays approximately 22% of the UN?’s general budget and 27% of peacekeeping budgets.]

THOSE UN THIEVES WILL STEAL IT
US Secretary of State Colin Powell said today not all the billions of dollars of tsunami aid was being spent and that the world should not flood the stricken nations with supplies that might not be needed.--Tsunami cash held back: Powell
Mr Powell estimated that international contributions to tsunami relief funds were now probably more than $US6 billion ($8 billion).
Of the US government donation of $US350 million ($460 million) only $US50-60 million ($66-80 million) had so far been committed, he told CNN television from Nairobi.
''What we have to do is to make sure that we're providing assistance based on what is needed and providing money based on what is needed, not just flooding all of these places and accounts with supplies that may not be needed, or financial assistance that may not be required yet,'' he said.
''Even though we have committed $US350 million, not all of that money immediately gets spent.
''That is also the case with the billions of dollars that have been committed by the international community. And some charitable organisations have already said, please stop sending us any more money, because they don't want to have so much money that they can't use it effectively, or it takes away from donations to other crisis areas of the world.''
The Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) group sparked a controversy last week, appealing for people to stop sending money, saying that the December 26 tsunami devastation in the Indian Ocean risked taking the spotlight away from other pressing crises, such as Darfur in Sudan.
Mr Powell agreed there was a risk that world attention could become unfairly focused on one problem.
''While we focus on the tsunami victims now, and a few months ago it was the victims of the crisis in Darfur, let's not overlook the fact that there are people in need throughout the world, whether it's in the Congo, the Darfur region of the Sudan, or in Liberia or in Haiti, or now in the area hit by the tsunami.''
Mr Powell said the US government was trying to ''protect'' the budget sources from which money had been diverted after the tsunami devastation.
But he added that it would be urgent for the US Congress to provide extra funding for the tsunami victims ''so that it doesn't come at the expense of other crises around the world''.
