This was a back door deal made by then Selectman Jim Casey to appease the police department in the hopes they would vote to reelect him. The bill slid through the finance committee and then was brought for a vote at town meeting. The lily livered TM's were ''afraid'' to say no. They were threatened with retaliation by ''our finest''. Righ after this group of spineless bodies gave the police this huge incentive to do their job, they weren't paying attention and proceeded to vote a 4% raise on top of it. The Quinn Bill even took care of the officers in town who have never or would never go to school. The big push was the fear that the police would take jobs in towns where a Quinn Bill existed and we would ''lose'' them. Give me a break. How stupid!! We have hired police officers waiting to get into the academy there are so many. The fire department was hoping their guys would be offered a similar deal. Wrong!! They haven't got the power to be menacing. Whether you like David Shaw or not, he stood up to the police union and they tortured him and his family. Where is Dirty Harry when you need him?
