Town of Braintree

When I read the posting about the east basketball team I had to laugh. As I understand it there were many kids cut from that team so I don't really understand what all the fuss is about one kid. I don't think the coach/teacher has any bias and I'm sure that the team was picked a lot more fairly than any BYB travel team is...I challenge anybody to tell me of any child of a BYB director who was ever cut from a travel team. I know I'll be waiting a long time

My Thoughts, Well.....

Could it be, dear parent, that you too are one of those who don't volunteer to do much of anything with BYB, yet condemm those who give of their time, talents and gasoline for travel team involvements. Would stand to reason to this long standing youth program parent who has been actively involved that if I give of my time, I do so to be with my kids and other kids. If I want to and can avail myself to coach a travel team, then don't you think I would want my child on my team instead of someone else's? Where is your logic?
Anyways, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

For baseball anyways, I cant say I,ve ever seen the child of someone who is ''somebody'' in BYB ever not make the travel team. The majority of the team is made up of kids whos parent is involved in the organization, whether the kid has talent and deserves to be on the team or not. Theoretically, travel teams are made up of the ''cream of the crop'', the most talented kids in their agegroup. Generally, the kids of the involved parent tend to be good in the sport. Luckily, after those children have been chosen there are still spots available for the kids who truely deserve to be on the team.

Now, on the other hand, I can understand why the coaches kids ''make'' the team. The coaches and directors put a lot of time and effort into what they do. A great deal of their time is required behind the scenes as well as in front of everyone. So maybe, for payback, their child is guaranteed a spot on the team. Since they dont collect a paycheck for this, one might find this acceptable.

I know that I would not coach a team that my child did not make.
