You have a selective memory. Think back to the UN resolution hearings. The entire UN Security Council said in it's opening paragraphs for 1441 that Saddam posed a threat to world peace and security by refusing to comply with the UN mandates. 12 Years of resolutions ignored. The entire UNSC demanded Iraq account for materials mising since IAEA's final trip years earier and instead of even trying to bluff his way around the resolution Saddam simply refused to comply. The ONLY reason france, germany and russia refused to uphold the resolution THEY signed was because they were breaking UN sanctions and feared discovery. And after 9/11 the US would be foolish to ignore a gahtering threat. None of those countries expected the US to actually attack, why would they? 12 years of inaction! Even when our actions made it secure enough for inspectors to return to search for WMD (not what they are hired to do, by the way...the inspecters job was to document what sadaam was mandated to account), the UN was bombed. And refused to return until they got a guarantee of safety by the US. The point is the US upheld the resolution they signed. It's simple. Any whining now is demeaning our troops and allies, and using selective memory to justify making this campaign fodder. Shame on you.

Dear Anon,

What we are learning is that Hussein was using the oil for food program to fill up his bank account. With this money he would have restarted his chemical, biological, and possibly a nuclear weapons program. The sanctions and this oil for food program was supposed to be under the control of the UN. It has now come to light that some very high ups in the UN were being bribed to look the other way while Hussein was wheeling and dealing. It has also come to the front that three members of the UN security council were also involved with Iraq in regards to money deals. Who were they: France, Germany, and Russia. Incase you've forgotten, these three voted against any military action against Iraq. I wonder why? The answer: They were involved in money deals with oil and because of those deals, they sold their vote to support Iraq. That's right, they were bribed. Now, if Hussein was allowed to continue with this program, with no fear of military action against him, and his track record of starting two wars in the area in the last twenty five years, what do you think he would have done and would you be willing to take that chance of a much bigger and wider war? War is a horrible thing, but to do nothing and let another 9-11 happen is unacceptable. John Kerry wants the UN to be incharge of these situations. I believe the UN has lost any right to lead the world in the war against terrorism. They have been caught dealing with a murdering dictator and I only wish Pres.Bush would stand up and call the UN for what is, a house of thieves and a den of bribery. The UN has lost it's right to function. Period! One final thought, the other night John Edwards said that al-queda was now involved in over sixty countries, but Iraq wasn't one of them. Come on John, wake up and smell the car bombs.
