Watch Out WFM
Be careful of a wolf in sheeps clothing. Only a small portion of the shipyard is in Braintree, so do not expect a tax windfall. The wear and tear on the roads(our tax money to repair them), foreign flaged ships and crews(more police costs) and loss in real estate value(less taxes) will exceed any tax money brought in by the shipyard. The only town that will truely benefit will be Quincy. They will get most of the taxes and very few of the headaches. As far as jobs go, how many people does it take to run a parking lot? Not many at all. That is all the shipyard will be, is a parking lot for containers and cars. Everyone wants the shipyard to be productive again, but Braintree also has to be smart enough to watch out for it's residents and financial interests.
If you watched the planning board meeting, it seemed to me that if know one brought it into the light no one in the area would have been notifed that the structure was coming down. It is also strange that the police and fire departments seemed to know well in advance it was coming down, but never let the planning board know. Someone in the town better step forward and take hold of this situation or we should just start changing our name from Braintree to Quirkville.
