Can someone explain this:
Red Sox offer Pedro $45Mil / 3 years
That equals $15Mil per.
NY Mets offer Pedro $54Mil / 4 years
That equals $13.5Mil per.
Over 4 years, the Mets offer is $9Mil greater (not better) than the Red Sox
From the Red Sox, Pedro gets $1 1/2 Mil per year more from the Red Sox for the first three years.
Another way to look at it is:
From the Red Sox, Pedro gets $1 1/2 Mil earlier that having to wait for the 4th year in the Mets contract.
That is $4.5Mil more in his pocket at the end of three years. Looked at it this way, he plays his 4th year with the Mets for the balance of that from the $9Mil left in the Mets contract.
$9 minus $4.5 = $4.5
If Pedro would be wise enough to invest that $4.5 Mil in his pocket after the 3 years with the Red Sox, he could make up much of the remaining $4.5 remaining in the $9Mil. Let's say he can invest/return $3Mil on that $4.5.
He basically traded Boston for the Mets for $1.5Mil and he has to work that 4th year.
I think Pedro should look real hard at that 4th year and ask himself if he really wants to work hard 4 years from now.
I don't think he has it in him to be a spectacular pitcher 4 years from now.
So what did the Mets buy ?
IMO, the Mets paid $54Mil for the next two years; Pedros next best two years.
3rd year...I believe he will decline some more.
His 4 year, he won't care cuz it's guaranteed.
I believed the Red Sox showed Pedro plenty of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. with their offer. And I believe if Pedro wanted to remain with the Red Sox after his pitching years are up, he could have found a home with the Red Sox.
Does Pedro have an agent ?
Was he even thinking ?
If so, what was he thinking ?
Does anyone else think Pedro made a mistake ?
Anyway, being a football fan first, I feel worse over the loss of Charlie Weiss and what he means to the Patriots than Pedro's loss to RedSox Nation.
At least Charlie Weiss left not for the money but for the job.
Pedro left for the money.
Incremental short money at that.
I think Pedro needs to show the Red Sox respect.
Anyway, Pedro, thank you for the past 7 years and your help with bringing home a World Series Championship.
Good Luck and Happiness in New York.
I hope you find R.E.S.P.E.C.T. in New York. Go easy with the NY Press cuz they can be so much worse there than in Boston.
