There is nothing that bothers me more that when I speak to a white person who does not speak proper english. (And this excludes people who speak proper english using slang.) The use of ''yous guys'', or ''when I first seen this'' from somebody, totally throughs me off. After speaking with a black friend of mine, apprantely, this kind of talk is equivilent to the ''I need to ax you a question'' from a black person. She actually enlightened me to the fact that ''white people'' that talk like this are ''from the hood'' as well and that is why they speak like that. I take great pride in my BOS accent, however, I make it a point to speak proper english.
Pleaese do not take me be prejudice, because I am so not (slang, so not part), but I was never thought the ''I seen'' equalled the ''I axed''.
After speaking with my friend, I make it a point to think about the words that I choose. Just so I don't ''through myself off....''
