How to use your new recycling container.

Congratulations!

You are now the proud keeper of a brand new recycling bin. This is your opportunity to reduce the amount of waste going to our landfills, save energy and conserve natural resources ?– all by recycling. You deserve a hearty ?‘Thank you!?’ for making your recycling program a success.

Here?’s how to make your recycling bin feel at home.
First, put it in a place where you will remember to use it. Second, take every opportunity to fill it with properly prepared recyclable materials. Third, give it adequate air and sunshine by putting it out on your collection day. Fourth, wash it once in a while with dishwashing detergent and water.

Why recycling is important to you.
Our community, like thousands of others across America, is running out of sanitary landfill space. On a national and global scale, society as whole is consuming valuable natural resources, some of which are non-renewable.

Our recycling program gives each of us a way to conserve landfill space by reducing the volume of waste that is buried in the ground. It also helps us ease the burden on our natural resources by recycling old materials, such as paper, into new products. And by recycling, we save energy and extend the life of our oil, coal and natural gas reserves.

Why YOU are important to recycling.
In a typical community, each family generates about 60 pounds of recoverable newspaper, cardboard, glass, plastic, tin and aluminum every month. Subtract that bulk volume from our local landfill, and it?’s easy to see that participation by you and your neighbors in this program can make a real difference.

Every can or bottle that you recycle is part of a long-range step toward easing the waste crisis we hear about in the news. Your participation in the recycling effort is the cornerstone of a movement that starts here, at home, but that will have a positive, world wide impact as more and more people make the decision to recycle.

Your Recycling Day Is: Thursday of each week

On your recycling day, just place your filled bin out on the curb by 7:00 A.M. Rain or shine, BFI will pick up your recyclable materials. It?’s that easy! Please do not put your recycling bin out at the curb until it is three quarters (3/4) full.

Here are the materials to recycle and how to prepare them!

1) Paper Products like Newspapers and Magazines. Please place paper products in the bin. Do not bundle or tie. Do not put phone books in the bin.

2) Plastics that are clear and cloudy like soft drink bottles and milk jugs. Any plastic container with /1\ or /2\ on it. Please rinse, drain completely and remove caps and rings. Take the first step and step on it. Do not put plastic wrap or other types of plastic bottles in the bin.

3) Cans that are aluminum or tin only. Please rinse, drain completely, and flatten if possible. Take the first step and step on it. Do not put foil, pie tins, siding, aerosol cans of any type, or scrap metal in the bin.

Glass ?– sorry but BFI is unable to accept glass at this time.

Please print this list and place it near your recycling bin, or post it where you will see it every day.

If you observe anyone removing any of the contents from you recycling bin other than authorized BFI employees, please call the telephone number listed on the back of this page.
