On Thursday, 2/8, a whole flock of the nasty geese reappeared on the shores of the big pond. They'd been gone for some time but now they're back, leaving their gifts of green poop all over the place. ANYTHING that anyone can do that will rid Hearthstone Manor of these despicable creatures will be greatly appreciated.
Geese

Oscar,
I agree with you about the Geese. We have a pair that have been with us for a long time and stay here most of the time. They have had several hatchings over the last couple of years and all those Geese are just coming home to visit Mom & Pop.

Our two geese

Jerry,
The ducks, which at one time were cute little things when they waddled around here, have grown up. I've seen them take off and fly in formation over the complex. I won't be surprised if they just fly away.

Now it looks like that one of the geese has an injured wing and can't fly. As geese mate for life, we now have two around as our pets. I'm not going to chase the happy couple- for now.

Letter to the Tennessean Editor

This was in the 3/11 Tennessean Letters to the Editor:
*************************************
''If geese won't leave, let's eat them
To the Editor:
Here's a solution for those Canada geese that just sit around eating and won't migrate: Serve them up! (''Canada geese creating havoc at wildlife refuge,'' March 8)

They are eating farmers' crops and hanging around in one place. So let's let farmers harvest and sell them. We can avoid killing wild geese by restricting the harvest to times when wild geese are not migrating through Tennessee and not allowing farmers to sell them frozen.

Then task the Tennessee marketing group to sell the meat to fancy restaurants and specialty grocers as a gourmet delight. Make sure they use pictures of Tennessee geese, not Alaskan geese.

We will solve an environmental problem and create a new industry for Tennessee: ''Free Range Goose.''
