Ditch

Posted in: Brunswick Place
Was the ditch dedicated to the City? If the ditch was not, why is the City allowed to utilize it to drain South Universty Terrace?

Ditch

The ditch the bisects Brunswick Place is designed to drain only Brunswick Place. The runoff from University Terrace South is directed to large sub-surface pipes and discharged directly into a Sand Beach Bayou tributary. One of these large pipes is located just outside of our Demery exit gate and you will notice, to the left of the exit gate, a large concrete drain box. That box is connected to the piping system.

THINK ABOUT IT

Today the drainage channel (''ditch'') is an eyesore and a weed-infested habitat for assorted reptiles, rodents and insects - all health and safety hazards. When it has been properly completed and the common ground on both sides can be developed and maintained, it CAN BECOME a beautiful parkway and a neighborhood asset.

ABSOLUTELY

Mrs. Ritchie...you are absolutely right. The ''ditch'', in its present state is awful and an eyesore. However, good news is that we have reached a settlement with the developer and clean up should start within 30 days. With all this rain though, clean up timeliness may be hindered a bit. But please, feel confident that change is on the way. All of us would love to see this area become more than what it is supposed to be (a drainage ''ditch'') and the board is looking into future options and ''beautification'' efforts as well. Our initial goal at this point is to get it cleaned out, so we won't be living among critters and everything else that may be in there (that is a scary thought). Anyway, clean up will start very soon and then we can move on with plans to getting this neighborhood back to the condition it was designed to be.
